Merry Christmas from Disneyland

This year we took the family to Disneyland for Christmas. My parents and my sister's family were able to come with us and we met in California. This was the kids' first time and Brandon and I haven't been for SEVERAL years. We had a great time. Luckily so, since we came home and all got the FLU! Hope you all had a great Christmas celebrating the Saviour with those you love!

The Lights at Temple Square

I attempted to post this via my phone the other night, but apparently was unsuccessful, so here it is.

A few nights ago, we took the family up to the Salt Lake Temple grounds to see the Christmas Lights. Although we haven't been for a few years (super cold and super newborn!) it is considered an annual tradition in out family. You can't beat the display they put on, nor the beautiful Spirit you feel while there. It is one of my favorite things!

We went on a Tuesday and the weather was outstanding! Not too cold and not windy. The crowds were light this early in the season and it was fortunate as we had two strollers and a wheelchair with us. We started with my favorite spot, the Assembly Hall. This building was used for services until the temple could be built. The architecture is amazing with it's Gothic styling and filigrees. Add Christmas lights and you can't miss!

There were several high school choral groups there (my Alma matter Hillcrest among them) and the show
was beautiful. Our favorite street musician the bagpiper was also there on the south side serenading as we arrived. We missed him on the way out but we are looking forward to hearing the pipe bands on New Year's. Well, hopefully I can talk Brandon into going...

We saw the nativity and heard the story as told by the Prophets. What an amazing experience! The scene on the lawn is absolutely stunning with the choreographed lighting. I got some great pictures here where the lights took on the look of the Star above the manger - despite having to use my phone. Grr. But that is another story.

Make this one of your hot spots this season for sure! End up at home around the hearth with some hot scones and chocolate milk as we did and it's a winner!

Love much,

Decorative Elements Christmas Ornaments

This is what I do in my spare time when I'm not saving the world at work. Ok it's not so dramatic as all that. I do get to do some downtime activities at my desk when it it's slow, though, so I try to get my crafting in then.

Today in preparation of decorating the tree with the kids, I sponged my DE Ornaments with Cranberry and Sweet Leaf. Starting tonight, we're doing a new holiday thing and the kids are making most of the ornaments for our tree.

This is REALLY TOUGH for mom. In the past, the tree has been my baby. I spent YEARS selecting (not just buying-no nothing as blase' as that) the ornamentation that culminates in the perfect Christmas tree, no, the Ultimate Christmas Tree... But I digress.

We're trying to have fun and create some fun memories for them which we will of course scrapbook, but not break the bank nor moms patience in the meantime.

So here they are. We'll add black and white photos of the kids and some ribbon and glitter tonight when we assemble them. I'll post some pics of our tree when we get them done this weekend. Gotta take some photos and print them out.

Love much!

The Hunger Games

I started reading this book last week. I know. You're thinking, "FINALLY." I seem to do that a lot. I did it with Harry Potter and Twilight, too. Not normally the books I would pick up, I get sucked into reading them after they are a Phenomenon. That's right. That's a capital P.

Same, here. My sis-in-law's ganged up on me (okay, it really wasn't like that), but they STRONGLY suggested I read the books as they prepared to start the 3rd in the trilogy. I can say, I wasn't hip on the story line. Don't like negative. Much prefer to zone out in the Happy Ever After. Plus it is too creepy that it is not that far out of an idea, right now..

I must say, I am very pleasantly impressed. I am only halfway through the first book (so please don't spoil it) but I can't wait to see what happens! So thanks to all of you who have recommended me books I haven't wanted to read. I always read them and am usually glad I did. Keep up the good work!

PS- Happy Birthday to my niece, Lecsy!

More Christmas Cards

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! I just got out my cards to mail for the year. We changed our address, so if I plan to get any cards sent to me, I better get on the ball and get mine mailed out! Here are a few favorites going out this year. I always have several versions, because at a list of 50+, I have a hard time keeping on task and making that many before I get bored with the Ford, er.. assembly line.

Just got back..

..from Fish Lake for the week. I attempted to update from my phone (which I am just learning how to do..) but there was no Internet coverage there. Epic Failure!

So that said, I'll get to the point! We had a great time on vacation. The leaves were beautiful - couldn't have picked a better time to go! We had sooo much fun four-wheeling, getting dirty and sitting around a stinky campfire roasting marshmallows. Of course, my kids are the ONLY ones I know who don't like roasting marshmallows or s'mores! Weird! I'm not sure where they came from some days.

Here are some of the pictures we took. I'll be posting pictures of stamp camp tomorrow, too, while I get plugged back into city life. Stay tuned!

Fish Lake from the middle overlook on Mytogee Rd.

Mytogee Road. This runs up the mountain on the east side of Fish Lake. It's our second favorite trail to ride.

We had some beautiful sunsets due to the fire just outside of Fillmore. This was seen from our camp.

On the road to Hancock Flat, out favorite road! The pictures just don't do the scenery justice, but the forest seemed to be on fire with the changing of the leaves.

Hancock Flat

We had lunch up on Hancock Flat in a sheep camp. There are usually several hundred head of sheep up here this time of year, but thankfully they were already down this year!

Plenty of wildlife! This was about a half mile out of camp on our way home from an afternoon ride. One doe and 2 fawns. Daddy Buck was nowhere to be found. The rifle hunt was due to open in a few days, so he must have been practicing!

How old does an aspen get? The scarred date on this one is 1937. You can clearly see the resemblance to the cottonwoods here, as they get older. I have never seen an aspen tree this old where the bark has changed like this!

Backlit aspen up on the trail to Hancock Flats.

Stamp camp artwork

Saturday we had a great Camp! Thanks to all those who made it even with construction!

We made 12 fun projects for only $12 and the ladies got decorated water bottles handmade by my daughter, Brook, and I. Snacks were served and we had a wonderful time!

Raffle tickets were handed out based on how many projects you completed. We held two prize drawings for gifts totalling $40 each! Oh, the competition was fierce, lol!

Yvonne Wickham received the first raffle prize consisting of a D-size stamp set, Connections metal charms, Sassy Strands and Pearl Opaques! Second, Colby Heddlesten received a D-size stamp set, Designer Ribbon Rounds, Metal accessories, Connections metal charms and Sparkles!

It was super awesome and I'm so glad you all were there! I can't wait to do this again next year!

Warmly,

Trisha

Paper Topiary-work in progress

Aside from the fact that my techno-geek side is trying to learn how to blog by phone, I have been working on a topiary out of paper. It isn't much to look at just yet, but I think it's going to be very cute when I get done! See what you think!

Stamp of the Month Artwork

I LOVE THIS SET! I couldn't hardly wait to open it when I received it and spent the evening playing in the craft room! I am so ready for Halloween anyway, but this set is going to be the life of my party! Here is a few cards I put together last night. I'm going to show you my invites and neighbor tags later this month, so keep watching for those as well!

I used You Rock to pair with black cardstock because I was looking for a purple and a nice contrast color (Orange) and Garden Green. It seemed a little off-the-wall at first, but it seemed sent from heaven when I realized this paper pack has all of those! I added Desert Sand to complement this guy's bone structure, lol.

It was a great challenge and turned out well. I can't wait to try the next one!

Warmly,
